his development initiative is designed for educators and program leaders who want to integrate sustainability (SDGs) into their teaching in a practical, engaging way. It provides a ready-to-use tool that supports active learning, teamwork, and critical thinking. The manual is especially useful for teachers who are looking for innovative methods to enrich their lessons, and for lecturers or project leaders who want to embed sustainability and experiential learning into their curriculum.

Short description

SDG Escape Room is an educational and interactive game created with the aim of creatively combining
fun, logical thinking and learning about sustainability.
Through six interconnected challenges, participants explore environmental topics such as CO₂ emissions, food, natural resources and global challenges.
Each box hides a new puzzle, clue or hidden number that leads to the next step, while participants develop teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills at the same time.

The game is intended primarily for professors, but also for students, and can be easily adapted to specific study
areas. The final task symbolically connects all elements of the game and emphasizes the importance of actively contributing to sustainable development.

The manual is flexible and can be adapted to different study programmes, allowing teachers to connect the
puzzles with discipline-specific topics. Each challenge integrates elements of sustainability, such as food emissions, biodiversity, resource use, and environmental awareness. The manual also includes guidance on preparation, facilitation, and reflection, making it suitable for both new and experienced educators.

Results

Participants will develop a deeper understanding of sustainability and the SDGs through hands-on experience.
They will strengthen key skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. In addition, they will gain awareness of how global challenges relate to their own study field and daily life, and learn to approach complex issues with curiosity and creativity.

Date

This initiative is available on demand. Teachers can request access to the manual at any time and implement
